Burnie Foreshore Boardwalk Art Prize ‘En Plein Air’ 16 March 2025

This inaugural event was a splendid success, attracting artists from overseas (even if only mainland Australia) as well as many well known and well loved local figures. The Burnie weather was blustery with a few showers - but Plein Air artists are used to dealing with unsettling surroundings and a marvellous time was had by all, with the foreshore close by if refreshments were needed and plenty of shelter. Jude Ball did a wonderful job of organisation despite the elements, with runners able to watch the artists’ equipment should they need a comfort break and taking care of the work of those artists who needed to leave early - it was a long day. Judging was professionally provided by Suzanne Hennessy, Simeon Cooper and Khayla Fowler who selected the three prize winners from a wide range of delightful and interesting work produced by the artists who entered. The People’s Choice prize was well supported by the local community and was well deserved by the winner. It is such a delight to find a vibrant arts community event thriving and hopefully continuing for many years, thanks to the efforts of local business and volunteers.
